NTT DoCoMo is set to launch 6 new phones over the next three months. The phones are made by Fujitsu Ltd, Sharp Corp, Sony Ericsson, NEC Corp, Matsushita Electric Industrial Co Ltd and Mitsubishi Electric Corp. All of these new phones have cameras, but the Fujitsu, Sony Ericsson, and Sharp cameras have 1.3 megapixel cameras. This resolution rivals some of the lower end digital cameras still on the market.

The phones are called D505i (Mitsubishi Electric Corp), F505i (Fujitsu), N505i (NEC), P505i (Panasonic - Matsushita Electric Industrial Co Ltd), SH505i (Sharp), and SO505i (Sony Ericsson)

The most interesting of the 6, and the one we feature here, is the SO505i by Sony Ericsson. It adds a new twist to the swivel design first shown on the Motorola V70. Quite a good looking device.

Information is a bit sparse at the moment, but here are a few details:

  • Size: 105mm x 49mm x 30 mm
  • Weight: 145g
  • Main LCD: 2.2-inch, 262,144 color, semi-transparent poly-silicon TFT LCD
  • Continuous Stand-by Time Approx. 400 hours
  • Continuous Talk Time Approx. 145 minutes
  • Memory Device Memory Stick Duo
  • 1.3 megapixel CCD Camera
  • External interface Infrared communication port
  • Equipped for Macromedia Flash

[NOTE: This phone will never be sold in Europe or North American, and will not work on networks outside of Japan. We post it here purely as an object to lust after.... And besides, we can always hope that somebody uses the design in a device that will be introduced in non-Japanese markets later. -editor]
