Samsung Launches Prototype Wireless Handheld
Snapshot by Nikos Papanikolopoulos on Thursday January 02, 2003.

Samsung SGH-m400The SPH-M400 offers an impressive array of features based on the Pocket PC Phone Edition, Microsoft's operating system for PDA phones and runs on CDMA 2000 1x EvDO networks. Such networks are already in commercial use in South Korea and are capable of data transmission at speeds up to 2.4Mbps.
Judging from the first look, the SPH-M400 fits more the description of a conventional PDA than a mobile handset. It features a thin film TFT (Thin Film Transistor) LCD, with the ability to display up to 65,536 colors in a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels, enabling us to have a full view of the impressive operating system it endows.
It is based on an Intel XScale processor running at 400 MHz, with 64 MB of RAM and 64 MB of Read Only Memory (ROM). Its other features include voice recognition, a text-to-speech engine, a TV Tuner for high quality videos, GPS satellite navigation and a Secure Digital (SD) card interface with full support for the SD I/O standard for plug-in peripherals.
According to Samsung, the SPH-M400 is due to go on sale in the first quarter of 2003 in Korea. It is not clear when or if it will be available in the US.
